Choosing Your Windows

Choosing Your Windows

Choosing your windows installation depends on one’s financial muscle. There are a variety of choices when it comes to the type of windows one wants for their building. There are five major types of window frames that are commonly used :

  • Aluminium
  • Steel
  • Fiber glass
  • Vinyl
  • Wooden window frames

Aluminium window frames

Aluminium windows and doors contribute excellent thermal and sound insulation which is acceptable by building regulatory standards. Heat loss or gain through the aluminium windows is 60%. Aluminium windows are known for being rugged and long-lasting. They let in plenty of sunlight and are low-maintenance, especially when they aren’t painted.

They don’t wear out in sunlight, rot or suffer from most common wear problems that affect other materials. When compared to other options they fall short in terms of efficiency. They are also quite expensive but highly trendy in Zambia at the moment.

Aluminium frames are flexible and can fit into any sort of decor.

Fibre Glass

These are 8 times stronger than Vinyl. They are strong and do not warp, rot or corrode. Fibre glass frames do not rust and are able to resist corrosion or contamination from chemicals or pollution. They are easy to maintain and secure. They improve soundproofing.

Vinyl window frames

They are usually made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Vinyl window frames do not require paint, as they come in a variety of colours. Additionally, vinyl is extremely moisture resistant. This means that, unlike wood, vinyl window frames will not mould or rot. Weather conditions such as extreme heat, moisture, or freezing temperatures don’t usually affect vinyl.

Once installed, vinyl window frames require little maintenance. They are very resistant to dirt, mould, stains, scratches, and dents.

Steel Window Frames

These are the strongest on the market for windows and door frames. Relatively cheap and can be welded into as many shapes and designs as Aluminium. Steel window frames are durable and are not vulnerable to cracking and they do not need much maintenance.

Wooden Window Frames

Wooden window frames will add to the long-term beauty  of your home while making a beautiful statement. when treated with care wood will last a lifetime.  Wood is extremely useful in areas with high humidity where the risk of rust is much higher. Wood is also better at absorbing sound. Wooden windows look elegant.
