The new year is upon us and with it, the latest flooring trends. Advances in flooring techniques over years gone by mean there are greater possibilities for designs and styles. If you have been contemplating upgrading your floors then this might just be year to do it. This is primarily due to the massive strides made in flooring styles, textures and colours. Regardless of your motive for upgrading your flooring, here are some floor trends for 2020 to keep an eye on.

Hardwood floors

To start with, we will look at hardwood floors. Hardwood floors have long been a preferred flooring option for many. This popularity is set to continue in 2020 and beyond. After all, hardwood floors are timeless, natural and comfortable. In addition, hardwood floors are stylish and they add value to a home.

Vinyl

Another floor option that has continued to grow in popularity is vinyl flooring. Vinyl floors are particularly popular among families with children. There is no question as to the durability, as well as the water and scratch resistant capabilities of vinyl flooring. In addition, vinyl flooring can imitate the look and design of other flooring types. Thereby giving you a diverse range of looks, styles and colours to choose from. Lastly, vinyl is a relatively inexpensive way to upgrade your floor in 2020.

Parquet

Are you looking for versatility in style? Parquet flooring is an excellent flooring option that offers great versatility in style. Furthermore, parquet can be creatively laid in a diverse and wide range of styles. Some of the styles to look out for in 2020 include classic herringbone, double herringbone, as well as chevron. In addition, parquet flooring is ideal for both classic and modern interiors with stunning results.

Wide plank

Yet another popular floor trend to keep an eye on in 2020 is wide plank flooring. After all, with engineered flooring being more accessible than ever, wider planks are the new trend. More and more homeowners are opting to use wide and long planks for their flooring needs. Wide planks allow homeowners to achieve a more modern and updated look. This ultimately makes the space look and feel more open, and generally appear bigger.

Rustic look

The desire to achieve a rustic floor look has significantly boomed in the last few years. As such, in 2020 I foresee an even more increased demand for rustic floors. The rustic look is a great way to give your floors more depth and dimension. Some of the more popular rustic looks include; hand-scraped, sewn, distressed, and wire brush styles.

Colours

The demand and popularity of grey or greige hardwood floors is set to continue in 2020 and beyond. Other equally popular and timeless flooring colours in 2020 are oak tones as well as natural wood. Another finish that is gaining significant popularity in 2020 is the whitewash finish. These lighter shades and hues are significant in making spaces appear bigger, brighter, spacious and more relaxed. However, there has also been an increase in the demand for darker flooring options. At the end of the day it comes down to the flooring option which works best for your home and syncs seamlessly with the rest of your décor.
